The Gausman Family; Baldwin, WI

In 1970, urban development pushed the Gausman family from Woodbury, Minnesota, to the countryside, and into a new chapter. There, Stan met Susie, the neighboring farmer’s daughter. Their shared love for farming grew into a marriage in 1976, five children, and what would become Suesta Holsteins.

Through the decades, the Gausmans expanded barns, silos, and their herd, meeting challenges, including a devastating house fire, with perseverance. In 2015, their youngest son, Grant, returned from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls, bringing fresh ideas and helping build a modern free-stall barn focused on cow comfort and efficiency. The upgrade boosted milk production and kept the herd healthier year-round.

Today, the family milks 120 Holsteins in their original tie-stall barn, with a Gausman present at every milking for more than 55 years. As partners of Burnett Dairy Cooperative, their milk is crafted into farm-fresh cheese enjoyed near and far. Grant also serves on the co-op board, giving farms like theirs a voice in the industry’s future.

From their barn to your table, Suesta Holsteins is built on family, community, and care.
