The O’Dovero Family; Mellen, WI

Amidst hardwood and pine forests stands O’Dovero and Flesia Farm & Meat Market, a farm truly unlike any other. Italian immigrants Monica and Emmanuel O’Dovero established the farm in 1926, settling, quite literally, on a gold mine. What was once the historic Holmes Gold Mining site became the foundation for a farm that has thrived for generations. For nearly a century, the O’Dovero family has run a combined dairy and meat market business, supporting their community in a unique way.

Today, they milk a mixed herd of 56 cows, including Brown Swiss, Jersey, and Normande, resulting in a distinctive milk profile. Their pasture-raised animals roam the Penokee hillsides, cared for with nearly a century of dedication. More than a business, the farm is a living legacy rooted in respect for the land, animal welfare, and community. This same care is reflected in the quality milk they supply to Burnett Dairy Cooperative, helping craft award-winning cheeses made by many farm families just like the O’Doveros.
